Meet Dr. Kendrick Johnson
Dr. Kendrick Johnson is the visionary and founder of Frontier Education Consulting, but he began his career as a high school English teacher in Chicago. His journey led him from the classroom to influential roles as an instructional coach and director of curriculum and instruction, and eventually to working with teacher preparation residency programs and school-level administration. Dr. Johnson specializes in a wide range of topics, including critical thinking and complex reasoning, restorative classroom management, social-emotional learning (SEL), dynamic student engagement, asset-based vocabulary instruction based in the science of reading, data-driven instruction, and aligned, coherent assessment systems—all enriched by his commitment to culturally relevant and responsive teaching. As chief consultant who has partnered with dozens of school districts, Dr. Johnson is celebrated for his dynamic training sessions and captivating facilitation style that empower educators with practical, innovative strategies to transform their classrooms. He delivers research-based professional learning and expert consulting to district leaders, instructional teams, and school administrators, empowering all stakeholders with the tools to nurture and sustain a vibrant culture of teaching and learning.
Academic Background
Dr. Kendrick Johnson began his academic journey at Morehouse College in Atlanta, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Linguistics in 2006. He then pursued an MBA with a concentration in Organizational Psychology and Development at American InterContinental University in Atlanta in 2007. Continuing his education, he obtained a Masters of Art in Teaching from National-Louis University in Chicago in 2008. Most recently, Dr. Johnson earned his PhD in Curriculum Studies from DePaul University in Chicago in 2021. This diverse academic background in literature, business, and education forms the foundation of his innovative approach to teacher training, educational leadership, and consulting.
